Part one: The End Begins

Byx sneaks out to watch some butterbats, and so her mother joins her. After a short conversation Byx’s mother revealed that the pack will soon travel north, then goes back inside. Byx almost goes back inside, but on a hunch runs and climbs up an old tower to look at the sea where she sees a wobbyk in a boat, about to drown.

Before she can save him, Byx scents dogs, humans, and horses. They charge into the clearing and she glides away from an arrow towards the wobbyk. She snatches him out of the boat, and they both fall into the water before climbing up a cliff. The wobbyk thanks her and they both walk along the shore to get away from the hunters. The wobbyk reveals that his name is Tobble and that he was captured by pirates, and asks what sort of animal Byx is. At first he doesn’t belive her when she says she is a darnie, but eventually accepts it as truth before they see the hunters.

The leader asks the young guide if he saw Byx again, and the guide replies that he hadn’t and she had most likely drowned. The poachers discuss the possibility of a dairne and remark how valuable one would be. The leader asks the guide which way they should go and despite that he had seen Byx hiding in a bush tells him to go the wrong way.

After they leave Byx’s stomach begins to whine. Tobble questions this and remarks that wobbyk‘s growl instead. After a moment Tobble says that due to the wobbyk code of honor he has to save her life three times.
